Chibuike Ikenga, the spokesperson for the faction of the party led by Tony Okocha, believes that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to win the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Ikenga, who serves as the spokesperson for the party in the state, said that the division within the largest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will work in the APC's favor during the governorship polls.
"First, you know that the PDP is grossly divided, from the national level down to the state. But in the APC, there’s no division. The only issue in Rivers State is that some people, like Rotimi Amaechi and others, who lost power and failed to win elections at the national, state, and local levels, now feel that they have lost control of the party's structures. As a result, they have decided to cause trouble," Ikenga said in an interview with Daily Post.
It should be recalled that Siminalayi Fubara, the successor to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, defeated Tonye Cole of the APC in a crisis-laden election in the state. With Wike and Fubara at loggerheads, many believe this could be the perfect opportunity for the APC to seize power in the oil-rich state.
