Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led Rivers state government said it would not comply with the 48-hour ultimatum to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly.

Legit.ng recalls that Fubara was issued a 48-hour ultimatum to re-present the 2025 budget to Speaker Martins Amaewhule-led assembly.

The House of Assembly had on Monday during its plenary given Fubara 48 hours to bring the appropriation bill following the Supreme Court judgement.

As reported by The Nation, Rivers government said it had not yet received an official letter conveying the summon, hence, it won't honour the ultimatum.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, made this known in a letter addressed to Speaker of the Rivers Assembly dated March 5th.

“As at the close of work on Tuesday, 4th March, 2025, we are yet to receive the said letter. Neither the office of the governor nor the deputy governor’s office, nor the office of the Accountant-General of the state has received the the said letter”.

Dangogo said Fubara has assured the people that as a law-abiding citizen he will obey and implement the decisions in accordance with the rule of law and in the best interest of Rivers State.

Legit.ng reported that Governor Fubara sent a message to his critics and pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers in Rivers state.

Fubara said he is not afraid of being impeached from office as that is the worst that can happen to him.

According to Fubara, it has gotten to the time for Rivers people to take their destinies into their own hands. Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Fubara took action following the Supreme Court's judgement concerning the state.

Fubara on Sunday, March 2, 2025, ordered a fresh local government election across all 23 council areas.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor made this known during a state broadcast and explained the reason for his decision.
