• Economic and social activities brought to a halt in Imo state over the sit-at-home order by IPOB
• Residents of the state have deserted markets and streets of the state capital for safety
Economic and social activities have come to a standstill in Imo as a result of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) sit-at-home's edict, which has prompted fears of attacks.
For safety reasons, residents of the state have abandoned the state capital's markets and streets.
For the annual Biafra Remembrance Day, pro-Biafra agitators led by IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu released a statement ordering residents in the South-East to sit at home between May 30 and May 31.
Mr Kanu claimed in a statement that the day had been set aside in honor of the roughly 5 million Biafrans who died during Nigeria's three-year civil war.
