My late brother gave up university for our future - Makinde mourns

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has recounted the sacrifice of his late elder brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde, to ensure that he and his other siblings attend school.

According to him, his elder brother who passed away on 24th January 2025 at the age of 65, sacrificed his university education to enable his younger ones to get an education.

Makinde revealed this during the service of songs held on Thursday evening at the State Government House Arcade in honour of the deceased.

“My late elder brother sacrificed his own university education so that I and my other siblings could go to school. He joined the Nigerian Navy and gave his all just to ensure that we had a better future,” the governor said.

“His sacrifice made all the difference in our lives. He showed us what true love and responsibility mean,” he added.

He said the deceased played the role of a father figure to his younger ones and always placed family above ambition.

"Sundo, as I called him, will be sorely missed by all of us. As I said in my remarks, he was the unifier in our family and we will remember his legacy of selflessness, love and honesty," he said.

The event was graced by members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC), top government officials, and traditional and religious leaders.
