Grammy-nominated singer Davido has claimed his father, Dr. Deji Adeleke, earned his first million at 23 and now leads a major energy business.
In a recent episode of the American podcast Bagfuel Brigade, Davido said his company generates approximately 18% of West Africa’s electricity, supplying it to the government for distribution.
“My Dad made his first million like 23. Right now, we supply about 18% of the whole electricity in West Africa.
"He sells the power we generate to the government, because the government has the authority to distribute. Ours is just to generate it and the government decides what to do with it,” he said.
In October 2024, Adeleke revealed that his power plant produces about 15% of Nigeria’s electricity, with assistance from Chinese engineering firms.
He is also finalising a 1,250MW power plant, set to be Nigeria’s largest, with operations expected to begin in 2025.
“In Nigeria, I am in the electricity business; I own a power plant, and presently, I generate about 15% of the electricity needs for Nigeria. I have Chinese Engineering companies that work.
"I am building and almost completed in January by the grace of God my new power plant to be the biggest power plant in Nigeria. It is a 1,250MW power plant to become operational in January,” he said in part.
