Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to jettison his presidential ambition, saying he should support his 50-year-old son instead.
Adeyanju said this amid Atiku's body language, which tilts towards contesting the 2027 presidential election.
The former VP had lost on three occasions, the last being the 2023 presidential election won by President Bola Tinubu.
He has since been fraternising with other opposition party members towards forming a coalition to unseat Tinubu come 2023.
However, Adeyanju believes that the former VP should throw in the towel and support a younger candidate instead.
He shared on X, "It’s better for Atiku’s 50-year-old son Adamu to run for president in 2027 than for his father to run 3 decades after. After all, most Nigerian ex presidents/head of state retired already at 50. Why is Atiku always contesting for president?"
Meanwhile, things have toughened for Atiku as the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have ruled out the possibility of a merger or coalition with any other political party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The governors made their position known in a communiqué issued on Monday after their meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Atiku lost two presidential elections running on the platform of the PDP.
The communique issued by the PDP governors in Ibadan apparently goes against his moves towards forming a coalition.
