Bandit leaders Abu Radde and Umar Black, operating in Batsari and Safana local government areas in Katsina State, have surrendered their arms and captives.

The surrender followed intense military operations by the combined forces of Op FASAN YANMA towards ending banditry and criminality in the region.

The Nigerian Army revealed on Monday that the surrender ceremony took place on January 19, 2025, at Batsari, and was witnessed by all stakeholders, including military representatives, to ensure transparency.

"The bandits handed over four AK47 rifles and 15 captives, comprising three males, eight females, and four children.

"It was emphasized that this surrender was not a negotiation or peace meeting, but rather a crucial step towards the bandits' complete disarmament and release of all kidnapped victims. The surrendered arms, which are in good condition, are now in the custody of the 17 Brigade, while the rescued captives have been handed over to the Local Government Authorities for rehabilitation and aftercare," the army said.

Meanwhile, troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN continue to make substantial progress in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property within the Joint Operations Area (JOA).

Through intensified kinetic and non-kinetic operations, security forces have recorded remarkable achievements, particularly along the Plateau-Taraba State borders.

"These efforts, focused around Bangalala and Kinishi Forests spanning Wase and Karim Lamido LGAs, have led to the elimination of multiple bandits, the destruction of criminal structures, and the successful rescue of 18 kidnapped individuals.

"The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families after proper documentation by relevant authorities," the army said.
