A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Mona Audu has urged the embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello to avail himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) so he can be acquitted of all the charges leveled against him.
Mona Audu who is a renowned automobile expert and Chief Executive Officer of the Electric Motor Vehicle Company of Nigeria (EMVC) urged Bello not to be afraid of the processes by the EFCC if he truly feels he is innocent.
The appeal was made during an exclusive interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, October 2.
"The former Governor and I have not seen eye to eye on so many issues and putting me on the spot to talk about him might make me seem antagonistic or whatever it is but to be honest, I have listened to what he has to say and what the EFCC has to say on news articles and reporting just as you have," Audu said.
"The truth is we must be one way or another law-abiding, if we believe in the system, we must submit ourselves to the system despite the fears he has that there is an attempt to embarrass him or whatever it is."
"But if he truly feels that he is innocent, I honestly believe that if he feels he is innocent, he should go ahead and meet them as nothing will happen," he added.
There is an ongoing face-off between Yahaya Bello and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The antigraft agency has accused the former Governor of insincerity and evasion after he failed to present himself before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, despite a court order.
Wilson Uwujaren, the Director of Public Affairs for the EFCC, in an interview with Arise News said this while describing Bello’s appearance at the EFCC car park on September 18 as a publicity and media stunt aimed at deceiving the public.
