Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the Obi/Datti campaign and popular blogger, Tunde Ednut has reacted to a viral news clipping of former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika promising that Nigeria will begin the production of aircraft by 2021.
The promise by Sirika emerged early on Thursday, August 22, and has been reposted by popular blogs on social media, including political commentators.
Tunde Ednut took a swipe at the federal government, commenting, "I think we have produced like 600 planes now. See the date above! These people sabi lie…" while Kenneth laughed.
The former Aviation Minister, who has been accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of using his position to give undue advantage to a company linked to his daughter and son-in-law, hinted in 2021 that production of airplanes in Nigeria will commence before President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office.
Sirika gave the hint when he paid an inspection visit to the Magnus Aircraft Industry in Pogany, Hungary.
“If we venture with them, we may start with an assembling plant and later manufacturing,” James Odaudu, the ministry’s spokesman, quoted him in a statement.
Sirika said the Magnus aircraft is lightweight, good for military training, has an aerobatic maneuver, and is made of high-strength composite materials.
The plane, he added, uses normal car petrol and outperforms any training aircraft of its kind.
