Prince Abimbola Owoade on Monday received the staff of office which confirms him as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
The staff of office was presented to him by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who announced his appointment as the Alaafin designate on January 10.
Here are 5 things to know about the new monarch who will soon be corronated.
1. Alaafin Prince Owoade, who was born in 1978, hails from the royal Owoade-Agunloye family of Oyo, one of the surviving children of Pa Rasaki Ibiyosi Owoade.
2. The monarch succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022.
3. He attended Baptist High School, Saki, Ibadan, Oyo State and obtained a National Diploma from The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, and a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. Prince Owoade furthered his education in the USA where he bagged a Bsc Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sunderland and a Msc Mechanical Engineering at Northumbria University.
4. Before becoming the Alaafin, Prince Owoade was a Planning Engineer at Oil Reach Company in Glasgow, UK and also played the role of a Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro, Canada. He also worked with Oceanic Bank International Plc. in Warri as a teller (2003 to 2004).
5. As a philanthropist, Prince Owoade has been efficient in assisting the development of the educational sector and also contributing to community projects, especially during crises. Some of his effort empowered widows and widowers, and preserved Yoruba cultural heritage and traditions.
