Yahaya Bello, born on June 18, 1975, in Okene, Kogi State, is a Nigerian businessman and prominent politician who served as the Governor of Kogi State from 2016 to 2024.
His educational journey took him through some of Nigeria’s esteemed institutions, including Ahmadu Bello University, where he earned a degree in Accounting and later a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Before diving into politics, Bello built a successful career in the private sector as a chartered accountant, equipping him with valuable skills in financial management and business operations.
Bello’s political career began with a significant turn in January 2016 when he was elected as the Governor of Kogi State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the death of the then-governor-elect, Abubakar Audu.
Despite his achievements, Bello’s tenure has not been without controversy. His administration faced criticisms regarding the handling of workers' salaries and allegations of resource mismanagement. Nevertheless, he remains a key figure in Nigerian politics, with aspirations for higher office and a continued commitment to the progress and development of Kogi State and Nigeria.
