Although she was born in Lagos, she attended Federal Government Girls' College in Oyo State and later studied at the University of Lagos, where she earned a degree in English and Literature.

Toke Makinwa gained prominence as a co-host of the popular morning radio show "The Morning Drive" on Rhythm 93.7 FM, Lagos.
