Samuel Ioraer Ortom is a Nigerian politician, businessman, administrator, and philanthropist. Born on April 23, 1961, in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria.
He served as the 18th Governor of Benue State from 2015 to 2023. Before his governorship, Ortom held the Minister of State for Trade and Investment position under President Goodluck Jonathan's administration.
Ortom was first elected as governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but later defected to the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
He was re-elected in 2019 as a PDP candidate. During his tenure, he focused on addressing security challenges, particularly the issue of herdsmen attacks in Benue State. Ortom has announced that he will not contest the 2027 elections, citing divine guidance as the reason for his decision.
