Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, born on December 9, 1979, is a prominent Nigerian politician and barrister representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District in the 10th Nigeria National Assembly.
With a legal background, she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Abuja in 2004 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2005. Early in her career, she worked as a legal counsel at Brass LNG from 2007 to 2010, and in 2015, she founded the Builders Hub Impact Investment Program (BHIIP) to focus on social and economic development.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan entered the political scene and ran for the Kogi Central Senatorial District seat in 2019 under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Although she did not win, she continued her political journey and was elected as a senator in 2023 under the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Her activism, particularly her efforts to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Mill, has brought her into the limelight. She has also been an advocate against gender-based violence and corruption, earning her recognition and awards, including the African Women Leadership Award and a presidential award from the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Recently, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has faced controversy with her suspension from the Nigerian Senate following allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. This suspension has sparked significant debate, with some viewing it as a politically motivated move to silence her.
Despite these challenges, she remains a significant figure in Nigerian politics and continues to advocate for social justice, economic development, and the empowerment of women.
