Uju-Ken Ohanenye, born Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, is a Nigerian lawyer, entrepreneur, politician, and film producer. She was born on December 23, 1973, in Nigeria and is known for her significant contributions to the legal and entertainment sectors.
Uju-Ken made history by being the first woman to run for the presidency in Nigeria under the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 general elections.
Although she later stepped down to support Bola Tinubu, her campaign emphasized women's empowerment, economic development, security, and anti-corruption.
In August 2023, Uju-Ken was appointed as the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development by President Bola Tinubu.
During her tenure, she focused on eradicating gender-based violence (GBV) and enhancing women's economic empowerment (WEE) in Nigeria.
She also advocated for increased female representation in leadership roles and the implementation of the National Gender Policy. However, her time in office was marked by controversies and disputes, leading to her dismissal in October 2024 as part of a major cabinet reshuffle.
Despite her dismissal, Uju-Ken remains committed to her vision for Nigeria and has pledged to continue supporting President Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda."3 She is also actively involved in the film industry as a producer and serves as the president of the Association of Nollywood Producers (ANP).
