Katsina United Football Club, based in Katsina, Katsina State, has a rich history in Nigerian football. Founded in 1994, the club made its debut in the Nigerian Premier League in 1997, finishing 12th in its inaugural season. However, following relegation in 2001, the team was disbanded. It wasn't until April 2008 that plans for the team's revival by the Katsina State Government began to take shape.

In 2009, the club was resurrected under the name "Spotlights FC" and participated in the Nigeria National League for its first season. However, it wasn't until February 2016 that the team reverted to its original name, Katsina United. This marked a significant turning point as the team surged back into prominence. In October 2016, Katsina United clinched promotion back to the Nigeria Professional Football League, making a remarkable return after a 15-year absence from the top flight.

The club's home matches initially took place at the Sardauna Memorial Stadium in Gusau while the Katsina Township Stadium underwent renovations. However, with the completion of the new all-seater Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, Katsina United found a modern and suitable venue for their home games. Despite not yet clinching a Nigerian FA Cup title, the team has made impressive showings, reaching the finals in 1995, 1996, and 1997.

Additionally, their victory in the Nigeria National League in 2016 stands as a testament to their resilience and determination. While their performances in CAF competitions have been limited, with notable appearances in the African Cup Winners' Cup and the CAF Cup, Katsina United continues to strive for excellence on the continental stage.
