Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, born on August 15, 1966, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, was a prominent Nigerian banker and businessman.

He served as the Group Managing Director and CEO of Access Bank Plc, one of Nigeria's top five banking institutions.

Wigwe started his career at Coopers & Lybrand and Guaranty Trust Bank before joining Access Bank in 2002 as the company's deputy managing director. He became the CEO in January 2014 and played a significant role in transforming the bank into a leading financial institution in Nigeria.

Tragically, Herbert Wigwe passed away on February 9, 2024, in a helicopter crash in California, USA.

He was on his way to attend the Super Bowl LVIII championship in Las Vegas when the accident occurred.

The crash also claimed the lives of his wife, son, and a former president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

President Bola Tinubu described his death as an "overwhelming tragedy," and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
