Gboyega Oyetola was born on September 29, 1954, in Iragbiji, a town in the Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria. Growing up in a supportive family environment, he demonstrated an early interest in education and leadership. Oyetola attended the University of Lagos, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance in 1978. He furthered his education with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the same institution in 1990. Before entering politics, Oyetola held key positions in the insurance and financial services industries, including serving as the Executive Vice Chairman at Paragon Group of Companies. His extensive experience in management and administration prepared him well for his subsequent political roles.

In 2011, Oyetola's political career took a significant turn when he was appointed as the Chief of Staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State. His effectiveness in this role earned him widespread recognition and set the stage for his gubernatorial ambition. In 2018, Oyetola ran for and won the gubernatorial election, becoming the Governor of Osun State. His tenure was marked by a focus on infrastructural development, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. After his governorship, Oyetola's commitment to public service was further recognized with his appointment as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy in Nigeria by President Bola Tinubu.
