Blackface, whose real name is Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, is a Nigerian dancehall, ragga, and reggae singer, as well as a songwriter. Born in Ogwule, Agatu, Benue State, Nigeria, he is best known as a co-writer of the hit song "African Queen" with 2Baba (2face).
The song became an international hit after its release on 2Baba's debut solo album Face 2 Face in 2004.
Blackface was a founding member of the defunct Nigerian hip-hop group Plantashun Boiz, which he formed in 2000 with 2Baba and Faze. The group released two successful albums, Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003), before disbanding in 2004. Although Blackface has maintained a good relationship with Faze, his rift with 2Baba has widened over the years, particularly regarding the rights and royalties of "African Queen".
After the breakup of Plantashun Boiz, Blackface pursued a solo career, releasing several albums including Ghetto Child (2004), Evergreen, Jungle Fever, Me, Musiq and I, and Dancehall Business. He has also collaborated with various artists and continues to be active in the music industry.
