Betta Edu, born Betta Chimaobim Eke on October 27, 1986, in Lagos, Nigeria, is a medical doctor turned politician.
She served as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under President Bola Tinubu until her suspension in January 2024 due to allegations of financial misconduct.
Betta Edu was the youngest minister in the cabinet and was known for her efforts in poverty alleviation and social welfare programs.
Before her ministerial role, Betta Edu held various positions in the health sector, including Cross River State Commissioner for Health and National Chairman of the Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum.
She also served as the National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was involved in several initiatives to promote women's empowerment and gender inclusion1
Despite her achievements, Betta Edu's tenure was marred by controversy when she was accused of diverting public funds into a private account.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) launched an investigation, and although she denied any wrongdoing, the allegations led to her suspension and eventual removal from the cabinet.
