Banky W, whose real name is Olubankole Wellington, is a renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, actor, politician, and entrepreneur. Born on March 27, 1981, in the United States, he moved to Nigeria at a young age and rose to fame in the mid-2000s with his distinctive blend of R&B, hip hop, and Afrobeat music.

Bank W did his primary and secondary education in Lagos then furthered his tertiary education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York, USA, on a scholarship. While studying, he started the Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2002. He moved back to Nigeria in 2009 and established his record label in Lagos, where he signed artists like Niyola, Shaydee, Skales, and Wizkid to the label.

In 2005, he released a debut studio album “Back in the Building.” and his debut single was “Ebute Metta”. He also wrote the first theme song of Etisalat Nigeria titled “0809ja for life.”

Banky W's foray into politics began in 2018 when he declared his intention to run for the Lagos State House of Representatives under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP). His decision was motivated by a desire to bring about positive change and youth empowerment in Nigerian politics. Despite being a newcomer to politics, Banky W's popularity as a musician and his advocacy for good governance resonated with many young Nigerians. Although he did not win the election, he garnered significant support and raised awareness about the need for youth involvement in politics.

Banky W and his wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington are blessed with a son, Hazaiah Wellington.
