Abike Kafayat Oluwatoyin Dabiri-Erewa, born on October 11, 1962, in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, is a prominent Nigerian politician and journalist. She is currently the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), a position she has held since 2019. Before this role, she served as a member of the Nigeria Federal House of Representatives, representing the Ikorodu Constituency in Lagos State from 2003 to 2015.
Dabiri-Erewa’s career began in journalism, where she spent 15 years at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), anchoring the weekly NTA Newsline program.
Her work in journalism was marked by a focus on social justice and poverty issues, earning her a reputation for compassion and dedication. She transitioned to politics in 2003, where she served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Media & Publicity and later the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs. During her tenure, she championed several significant bills, including the Freedom of Information Bill and the Violence Against Persons Bill.
In addition to her political and journalistic achievements, Dabiri-Erewa is known for her advocacy for Nigerians abroad, working tirelessly to address their concerns and promote their welfare.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication, and a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. Her dedication to public service and her impactful work have made her a respected figure in Nigerian politics and beyond.
