Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen has recounted the reception he received from fans of the Turkish side after his move from the Italian side, Napoli last summer.

After a prolonged transfer saga that saw him heavily linked with Chelsea and Manchester United, Osimhen opted to join Galatasaray on a season-long loan.

Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, the Nigerian striker revealed that he had never experienced such a warm welcome from fans, stating that he was unaware his flight was being tracked by supporters eager for his arrival.

According to him, the love he has received from fans was overwhelming indicating that it felt like movie to him.

“The reception I got from the fans showed that this club is more than just a football club—it’s a big family. I feel really privileged to be here, especially considering the many amazing, world-class players who have played for Galatasaray,” Osimhen said.

He recalled his journey from Naples, admitting that he had no idea fans were closely monitoring his flight.

“I didn’t know they were tracking my flight. That was completely new to me. When I arrived at the airport at around 3 AM, I was shocked to see so many fans waiting for me, my family, and the club officials who brought me to Istanbul.

“I have to be honest, I was overwhelmed. It felt like a movie. They followed me all the way to my hotel, and some of them even stayed in the same hotel. I would see them regularly when I left for training and when I returned.”

Osimhen added that the warm reception extended beyond the fans, as his new teammates also welcomed him with open arms.

“The way the players received me in the dressing room made me feel at home immediately. I told myself, ‘I don’t know where you’re coming from, but you need to adapt quickly.’ Accepting Galatasaray’s project felt right, and I am truly happy to be here.”

He also expressed his love for Turkish culture, particularly its cuisine and tea.

“My family loves it here. My friends are here too, and I’ve made new ones. Turkish food is really good, and I drink a lot of çay (tea),” he concluded.
