World Cup qualifiers: Bafana Bafana not afraid of Super Eagles — Broos

South Africa coach Hugo Broos South Africa coach Hugo Broos

Head Coach of South Africa, Hugo Broos, has declared that his team is not intimidated by the Super Eagles ahead of their crucial encounter in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The highly anticipated match will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, marking the third fixture for both teams in the qualifiers.

This match will also serve as a rematch of the semi-final clash at this year's 2023 African Cup of Nations, where Nigeria edged out South Africa in a dramatic penalty shootout to secure their place in the finals.

In a press conference on Monday, Broos expressed confidence in his team's abilities, recalling their performance in the previous encounter against Nigeria.

"Everyone of us wants to go and qualify for the World Cup in 2026. We are in front of two very tough games," Broos stated.

He acknowledged the strength of the Super Eagles, highlighting their status as AFCON finalists and the caliber of their players who compete in top European leagues. However, he also pointed to South Africa's strong performance in the AFCON semi-final.

"If we had a little bit of luck on our side, we were in the final and not Nigeria. We were the best team in the semi-finals, we could have won that, so we don’t have to be afraid," Broos remarked confidently.
