Glasgow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers was surprisingly missing when Finidi George announced his maiden squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Republic of Benin next month.

The 29-year-old has been in impressive form for the Scottish giants this season and was believed to be among one of the first names on the list of invited squad.

The former Cremonense striker has registered 22 goals and 13 assists for the Gers this season, as per Fotmob.

Meanwhile, recent report as per ScoreNigeria has offered some insights into why the player was not included in the squad for the upcoming qualifiers.

According to the said report, the Dutch-born Nigeria has been nursing an injury at the latter part of the season. Dessers reportedly suffered an ankle injury in the Scottish Cup final against Celtic.
