Al-Nassr talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, was inconsolable after his side suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Al-Hilal in the Saudi King's Cup final.

The 39-year-old, who was chasing his maiden major silverware with the Knights of Najd, saw his side agonisingly miss out on the trophy to their local rivals.

Having posted a new single-season best for the Saudi Pro League, after registering 35 goals in that competition, Ronaldo was poised to cap his first full campaign with a title.

Unfortunately, Aleksander Mitrovic fired Hilal into the lead after just seven minutes with a trademark header.

Cristiano himself came close on a couple of occasions but was thwarted by the impressive Yaccine Bounou.

While the five-time Ballon d'Or winner failed to find the back of the net, it was Saudi international Ayman Yahya, who pulled Luis Castro's men level with three minutes left.

With no goals to separate the two sides in a tense finale, the game went into post-match penalty shootouts, with the Blues Waves winning the battle of wills.

After the game, CR7 was left in an emotional state; failing to hold back his tears, the 39-year-old broke down as he was consoled by teammates and the technical staff of Al-Nassr.
