Tyreece Anthony Tupac Shakur Campbell may have been named after a legendary rapper, but his real idol is Super Eagles and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman.
The 21-year-old Charlton Athletic winger has openly admitted that he grew up watching Lookman, who also came through the Charlton academy, and continues to draw inspiration from his success.
Campbell has been one of Charlton’s standout players this season, helping the club push for Championship promotion. The Southwark-born forward, who has 11 big chances created in the league this season, has shone in a free role on the left of a front two under manager Nathan Jones.
However, despite his growing reputation, he remains humble about his inspirations, chief among them, Ademola Lookman.
Speaking in a recent interview, Campbell said, “I used to watch him when I was younger, when I used to be a ball-boy at Charlton,” Campbell revealed.
His admiration for Lookman runs deep, with old photos showing a young Campbell alongside the Nigerian forward. When Campbell scored against Exeter City in February, Lookman himself took to social media to congratulate him, a moment that left the young winger beaming.
“I used to look up to him, I still do. It inspires all of us academy boys,” Campbell said of Lookman, who finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings and has become a shining example of what Charlton graduates can achieve.
Despite his unique name and undeniable talent, Campbell is focused on the next step in his career, whether with Charlton or outside the Valley.
With Lookman setting the blueprint, Campbell is motivated to make his mark on English football. If his performances this season are anything to go by, it might not be long before he follows his idol onto the biggest stages in world football.
