Atletico Madrid have declined an opportunity to sign Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi on a free transfer this summer.

AS reports that Atletico manager Diego Simeone has refused to pursue the Leicester City midfielder after the player was offered to the club.

The Argentine tactician is, however, keen on pursuing other midfield options such as Pierre-Emile Højbjerg of Tottenham Hotspur and Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer.

Ndidi's contract with the Foxes expires in June, and there have been no discussions with the club about a possible extension.

The Nigerian midfielder played a crucial role in Leicester City's campaign to regain their Premier League status after suffering relegation last season.

The 27-year-old has been in outstanding form this season, leading Enzo Maresca's side to clinch the EFL Championship title and secure their return to the top flight.

Ndidi's impressive performances for the Foxes have attracted interest from other top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Wolves.
