Rafael Leao makes 'selfish' claim about Cristiano Ronaldo, plans on reaching his level

Rafael Leao admits he has the appetite to reach the heights attained by Cristiano Ronaldo but was quick to note that he does not possess his idol's "selfish" attributes.

The past two seasons have seen Leao rise to prominence and be counted among the next generation of players alongside Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to dominate global football.

In the said period, the Portugal international has chalked up 58 goal contributions (30 goals and 28 assists), including 14 goals and 12 assists in AC Milan's Scudetto-winning campaign in the 2021–22 season, per Transfermarkt.

Having lit up the Italian Serie A with his performances so far, this season notwithstanding, Leao continues to arouse interest from some of Europe's powerhouse.

Unsurprisingly, he has set his sights on matching the feat attained by compatriot and childhood idol Ronaldo and at the age of 24, he has time on his side to make the world his oyster.

In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, the former LOSC Lille winger was asked whether he believes he can emulate Cristiano in his career.

Leao calls Ronaldo "selfish"

While making his intentions known, the Milan talisman acknowledges that he does not have the "selfish" tendencies that helped make the Al-Nassr captain a world-beater.

"Yes, but I'm not selfish," he told Sky Sport Italia as quoted by GOAL.

"I can score goals but if I can also provide assists, I pass to my team-mate. At these levels, the numbers make the difference because Mbappe, Haaland, and Messi make numbers that speak for themselves. When I think like them, I will get to that level.”
