Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has reacted to his call-up for the Super Eagles' World Cup qualifiers matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.

The 24-year-old has not been a consistent member of the Super Eagles following his error in the 2021 African Cup of Nations, which cost Nigeria a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the round of 16.

The shot-stopper faced significant social media backlash, prompting him to take a break from the national team.

However, some impressive performances in Serie A for Udinese have earned the goalkeeper an invitation from new Super Eagles head coach Finidi George, who is gearing up for his first major test after his substantive appointment.

Okoye made 21 Serie A appearances this season and kept five clean sheets to help Udinese avoid relegation.

“I am very happy to return to the national team. It is a great honor for me and my family to play for Nigeria," Okoye said on his return to the Super Eagles as per Complete Sports.

Okoye will now have to compete with Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for the Super Eagles' number one spot.
