It is a shame – Redknapp on Duran joining Al Nassr

Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp has reacted to the move by Aston Villa forward, Jhon Duran to Al Nassr.

He described the move as a shame because he has so much more to offer the premier league.

According to Redknapp, he feels sympathy for the 21-year-old Colombia international because he’s up against a top striker, Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa.

Duran joined the Saudi side in a €77m fixed fee plus add-ons in a long term contract.

Speaking on the Transfer Show, Redknapp also said that it’s a big opportunity for Duran because he’s going to work with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.

“I feel a little bit of sympathy for Jhon Duran at Villa because he’s up against a top striker. It’s very difficult to get someone like Ollie Watkins out of the team; he scores, he assists – he’s a very important player for them,” Redknapp said.

“Everyone is going to have a view on him going. It wouldn’t be for me. At that age, I wouldn’t have wanted to go. But I totally get it if it’s going to change his family’s life, if he’s going to earn vast amounts of money. In three or four years’ time, he can come back to the Premier League.

“It’s very easy for people to judge in these situations and say he shouldn’t do this, he should go to another league. But, financially, he’s going to make his family’s lives so much better. The money we are talking about is astronomical.

“It’s a shame because you feel there’s so much he can do in this league, but he’s going to go and work with Cristiano Ronaldo and it’s a big opportunity.”
