Former media officer of the Super Eagles, Collins Udoh has suggested that the Bafana Bafana could still face a three-point deduction as punishment for fielding an ineligible player during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Udoh shared this perspective in a post on X, referencing a similar incident involving Nigeria in 2018.

He wrote: “In 2018, when Nigeria were in a similar position with Shehu Abdullahi, Algeria did not lodge a protest. FIFA still took action and turned a 1-1 draw into a 0-3 loss.”

His remarks follow widespread reports that Lesotho had reportedly withdrawn their protest against South Africa for fielding Teboho Mokoena, who should have served a one-match ban.

Mokoena had accumulated two bookings in matches against Benin Republic and Zimbabwe earlier in the series.

Despite this, the 28-year-old played as South Africa secured a 2-0 victory in Polokwane.

The situation has sparked discussions about whether FIFA will intervene, as it did in Nigeria’s case in 2018.
