Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal, has expressed his intentions to strengthen security measures in the state after the Department of State Security intercepted a large cache of weapons smuggled from Niger Republic by a suspected gunrunner.

Reports indicate that the seizure was carried out in the state’s capital, Gusau. Speaking at the handover ceremony of the seized weapons in Gusau, Lawal expressed deep gratitude to the DSS and other security agencies for their synergy and proactive intelligence gathering that led to the successful interception.

He said, “I commend the DSS and all security agencies for their diligence and coordination.

“These weapons could have ended up in the hands of criminals terrorizing our people.”

Lawal mentioned that his administration is committed to supporting security forces in the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes affecting the state.

The governor appealed to the public for increased cooperation with security agencies and assured residents of continued government support for security agencies.

“I call on the public to support security efforts by providing credible intelligence and cooperating with law enforcement agencies,” he urged.

He stressed that his administration would remain dedicated to strengthening counter-banditry operations throughout Zamfara and the broader Northwest region.
