A tragic accident occurred on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge involving a Ford bus (FKJ 724 YC) and a Mercedes truck (FKJ 746 YC).
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the collision resulted in one fatality and five individuals being hospitalized.
Upon arriving at the scene, LASTMA officials coordinated rescue efforts with the help of bystanders.
Four victims were rescued from the wreckage, with three of them being alive. Unfortunately, one person trapped inside the J5 Ford bus, which was carrying pepper and other perishable goods, did not survive the crash.
Investigations revealed that the J5 Ford bus experienced brake failure at high speed, leading to the collision with the Mercedes truck.
Various emergency response agencies including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Response Unit (LRU), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police Force, LASAMBUS, and LASTMA, assisted in the rescue operation.
All survivors were swiftly taken to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for medical treatment.
The accident site was cleared of damaged vehicles and spilled goods to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the bridge.
