Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for commiserating with the flood victims in Borno.
The Vice President visited the flooded palace of the Shehu of Borno on Tuesday, September 10 for a hands-on assessment of the incident.
Dele Momodu applauded Shettima's on-site visit which is different from issuing press releases which has always been the norm.
"The Vice President Alhaji Kashim Shettima continues to demonstrate his leadership skills. Kudos to His Excellency for this on the spot assessment rather than issuing some useless press releases," he wrote on Instagram.
The floods in Borno displaced thousands and affected critical facilities like the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, government house, and post office.
The flooding, caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam and excess water from the spillways, has affected Maiduguri and surrounding towns, submerging several neighbourhoods, including the Emir’s palace, underwater.
Wild animals from the state zoo, including snakes, crocodiles, and ostriches, are now roaming the streets.
The hardest-hit areas are Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin, where homes have been swept away and streets have become rivers.
Shettima is the immediate past governor of Borno State.
