The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom, Waheed Ayilara is dead.

Ayilara died on Thursday, August 29 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

Reports indicate he died hours after undergoing a prostrate cancer surgery on Wednesday, August 28.

“We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother and family member, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead,” a family member said.

His death was also confirmed by a top police officer in Akwa Ibom who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter.

The late Ayilara was appointed as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023 and was deployed to Akwa Ibom by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun in February 2024.
