Drought in Plateau State Drought in Plateau State

Several Christians and Muslims in Plateau State gathered at their various places of worship to pray for rainfall as crops continue to wither.

On Monday, August 12, 2024, residents in Shendam Local Government Area of Jos lamented the loss of their crops due to the prolonged absence of rain.

As a result, Muslims gathered at the Eid ground for a prayer session, while Christians held prayers in various churches across the LGA to seek God’s intervention.

Reports indicate that affected crops include maize, yam, and millet, among others.

The Chief Imam of Yelwa Central Mosque, Abdulkareem Salihu, believes that various crimes committed on the land have caused the drought. He stated that Allah is displeased with the situation and urged followers to fear Allah.

Isaac Luka, a pastor with RCC in the Lakichi community, listed fake promises, abortion, and the killing of innocents as contributing factors to the problems being faced.

“We have gone against God," he said.

The religious leaders also called on the government to prioritise the welfare of its citizens and fulfil their mandates to the people.
