20 drown while escaping bandits’ attack in Zamfara

More than 20 people have died in Kali, a community of Gumi Local Government Area, Zamfara State as they attempted to escape from bandits’ attack.

The reports indicate the boat they were traveling in capsized in a river as they fled.

An eyewitness who spoke to the Daily Post said the bandits attacked the village at 1:00 pm last Sunday, August 4.

“The bandits were seen moving towards Kalli village on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons to attack the community, which forced the villagers to flee for their safety,” he added.

The eyewitness explained that the boat which was overloaded capsized along Birnin Magaji River, which led to the death of 20 villagers.

He disclosed that five corpses have since been recovered at Falale River, four at Birnin Magaji River, while three were also recovered at Gadar Gummi River.

Speaking further, he said that the bandits terrorized communities of Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Katsina, Kallin and Kazura villages, all in Gummi local government area.

The police are yet to issue any statement on the reported incident.
