Why I rejected N150 million bribe - Police Officer explains

There has been applause for a Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sini after it was revealed that he turned down a N150 million bribe.

Narrating what transpired Sini said, he was offered a bribe by Lagos-based businessman Akintoye Akindele, the managing director and chief executive officer of Duport Midstream Company.

According to Sini, Akindele offered him the bribe to allow him to escape abroad and write a favuorable report for him after the investigation.

Upon Sini’s refusal, Akindele was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja in 2023 and subsequently remanded to Kuje Correctional Centre.

Sini having received praise for his bravery and strength to withstand the bribery, said he refused the money in order to have peace of mind and uphold his integrity.

Speaking at a dinner organised in his honour in Abuja, he said, "Yes, I remember when the incident happened. The person in question asked me, 'Do you want to be rich?' He said this is an opportunity for you to be rich.

"So, I decided to do the right thing so that I can have peace of mind and stand to do what is right for myself, for my organisation, the Nigeria Police Force and also for my country."

The policeman further cautioned the youths against succumbing to bribery.
