A social commentator on X has criticized Seyi Tinubu after he was seen in a recent video distributing food to young children in Katsina State.

The user, with the handle @_Minikothe3rd, condemned the move describing it as a way to further deepen the struggles of individuals in the region who already live in abject poverty.

Seyi, who is currently on a tour of the North to visit influential leaders and politicians, had earlier stopped in Kano State before heading to Katsina. Reports indicate that he is now in Sokoto.

In a widely circulated video, he was seen handing out bowls of what many believe to be rice as children broke their fast.

The act sparked mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a genuine outreach effort, while others saw it as an attempt to exploit the poverty of Nigerians.

"We’ve never stooped this low in our entire history. The son of the president and acting Vice President, Seyi Tinubu, coming to the far North just to share plates of Jollof Rice. This is sacrilege," the post read.

While Seyi’s visits have been officially described as part of a Ramadan outreach and the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement initiative, many political observers believe they are strategic moves aimed at strengthening his father’s political influence in the North, where resistance to President Tinubu’s re-election bid is reportedly growing.

Seyi has visited key northern states where the president’s electoral prospects appear uncertain. Within days, he met with former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar in Niger State and immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna. His visit to Kano also stirred discussions, as he hosted an iftar (breaking of fast) that attracted political figures from both the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

His latest stop was Sokoto, where he arrived yesterday alongside the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande.
