Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have killed two children of a police inspector and burned down his residence following a deadly attack in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

This was disclosed by security analyst, Zagazola Makama in a post on X.

According to intelligence he gathered, the attack occurred at 12:59 a.m. on March 3, 2025. He said the assailants infiltrated the town, targeting the home of Inspector Jibrin Mohammed of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Security sources confirmed that the terrorists set the house ablaze and killed two of the officer’s children before escaping.

"Upon receiving intelligence on the attack, troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2 Operation HADIN KAI swiftly mobilized to the scene. However, the terrorists fled upon sighting advancing troops, abandoning their bicycles in the process," he post reads.

The attacks come after a bloody clash between Boko Haram and rival Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno State.

Zagazola Makama in an earlier post on X said at least 20 Boko Haram insurgents were killed in the attacks as ISWAP launched a surprise assault on their positions.

The security expert noted the clash took place on March 3 in the riverine areas of Abadam Local Government Area, extending into parts of the Diffa region in Niger Republic.

Makama revealed that the violence erupted after ISWAP operatives ordered local residents to clear thick vegetation between Dabar Giwa village in Kukawa Local Government Area and Garin Mallam Ya’u.

This action unintentionally exposed the positions of Boko Haram militants, who had been hiding in the area since February 27 in preparation for a counteroffensive against ISWAP.

“Contrary to Boko Haram’s planned ambush, ISWAP launched a well-coordinated offensive, targeting insurgent camps located between Tumbun Kwatar Mota and Tumbun Marakirya, near a former ISWAP stronghold in Tumbun Gini,” Makama stated.

The sudden attack caught Boko Haram fighters off guard, leading to the deaths of at least 20 insurgents.
