Reports indicate that a fire has destroyed parts of Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State.
It was gathered that the fire, which started at one of the buildings at about 6:20am, spread to nearby buildings.
Men from the fire service were reported to have arrived at the scene to quench the fire and salvage properties and goods.
Confirming the incident, Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, said, “Anambra State Fire Service is currently on intervention at the scene of the fire outbreak at Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, Onitsha.
“The distress call came at 0620am today, and our firefighters were deployed immediately.”
Chiketa urged residents and the public to remain calm as the situation is under control.
The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained at the time of this report.
