Abia Governor Alex Otti raises salaries of traditional rulers to N350,000

Abia Governor Alex Otti has approved monthly stipends ranging from N250,000 to N350,000 for traditional rulers in the state.

The Information Commissioner, Okey Kanu, announced this on Monday, January 13, 2025, during a press briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.

Kanu mentioned that members of the Traditional Rulers Council at the state and local government leadership level will now receive an additional N100,000 monthly.

He stated that the Abia government is dedicated to supporting Abia traditional rulers in preserving the state’s cultural heritage.

The commissioner also pointed out that the state plans to establish a 30-year development plan to align with current economic conditions. The Abia economic team assigned to this task will be inaugurated soon.

Regarding street trading and traffic violations, Kanu acknowledged that the state government had previously expressed concerns about the negative impacts.

Furthermore, the commissioner disclosed that the government has begun implementing its out-of-school policy by reopening schools in the state after the holiday season.

Kanu explained that a special task force has been assembled to ensure residents comply with the directive as the government aims to decrease the number of out-of-school children in Abia State.
