Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos State election, has shared an experience that completely altered the trajectory of his life.
Rhodes-Vivour made the revelation during a quick chat with Conversations With Marvel on Sunday, February 3, 2025.
According to him, aspiring to lead a state like Lagos—one of Africa's largest economies—was an eye-opener, as it exposed him to the deep-rooted issues in the state's governance.
"Running for the 2022 elections. Well, I experienced a people that are supposed to be leading and caring for citizenry, planned violence against that same citizenry. And it made me question a lot about the quality of our leadership. And it's really exposed the underbelly of what has been going on in Lagos for a very long time. So yes, definitely that experience changed my life," he said.
When asked about what advice he will give to men in their twenties, he said: "This is the time to build. Don't waste it. Be very intentional about your friendships, male and female. Be intentional about who you spend time with. Be intentional about the books that you read. Do everything you can to build the pillars of your life because this is your pillar building stage. Take risks, take chances. You might feel it's okay. Get up. All those experiences will help you build as you get older. So this is the time to do that."
