Reports indicate that security operatives stopped some men dressed in police uniforms from taking control of Rivers’ electoral facility.

The men were said to have arrived at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC) office to cart away with sensitive materials for local government elections scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 5.

With a swift response, Governor Fubara led a team of officials, lawmakers, stakeholders and leaders to the RISIEC office.

Fubara mentioned that despite the attempt by the miscreants, the local government elections would proceed as planned and warned against any interference that could lead to anarchy.

It was gathered that the men attempted to enter the commission’s gate and steal electoral materials, however, security officials alerted Fubara, who instructed them to take immediate action.

The incident occurred around 1am on Friday, October 4, 2024. Speaking with journalists, Governor Fubara accused the Inspector General of Police and the court of plotting to cause anarchy in Rivers.
