Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has called out top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party over the running of the party.
He mentioned in a post shared on his social media page on Sunday, August 25, that the founding fathers of the party such as Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Sunday Awoniyi, Adamu Chiroma, Tony Anenih, and Abubakar Rimi would be turning in their graves over the actions of PDP’s acting National Chairman, Iliya Damagum.
Melaye believes that the PDP has become an obituary under the leadership of Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu, and Umar Bature.
The 2023 Kogi State Governorship candidate noted that the above mentioned names have destroyed the former ruling party, accusing them of commercialising and privatising the opposition party.
On his X Melaye wrote: “PDP is the only surviving party of the 4th Republic. After 27 years of surviving all shenanigans.
“Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Sunday Awoniyi, Adamu Chiroma, Tony Anenih, Abubakar Rimi, etc will be turning in their graves seeing what Damagun, Ayanwu and Bature are doing to the dream of building a national party. PDP now, Obituary.”
His recent verbal attack on the party chieftains has led to some members calling for his suspension from the PDP.
The Kogi State chapter of the PDP has labelled Senator Dino Melaye as a liability to the party.
The PDP elders in the state led by Ibrahim Dansofo urged the local executive committee in Ijumu to initiate immediate suspension proceedings against Melaye.
Dansofo said, “Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party. His accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election.”
