A newspaper clipping featuring President Bola Tinubu calling for a "common sense revolution" in 2014 has resurfaced on social media.

Tinubu, who was the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the time, accused the governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of plunging Nigeria into crisis during its tenure.

In a statement titled "A Return to Decency," Tinubu described the 16 years of PDP rule at the federal level as a period that steadily declined into disaster. He noted that "the longer they rule, the less benefit the people derive."

The now-viral photo was shared by Mahdi Shehu, a public affairs commentator, on his X handle on Wednesday, July 17 with the caption, "Under Goodluck, Tinubu called for a revolution. The Ulama were sleeping and did not understand Islam. Now, a call for just a protest by hungry Nigerians, the Ulama have woken up to Islam now."

President Bola Tinubu's tenure has been marked by controversies since he assumed office on May 29, 2023. The removal of the fuel subsidy has caused untold hardship to Nigerians, who are feeling the brunt of inflation.

The ongoing hardship has prompted a planned protest scheduled to take place from August 1 - 10.
