The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed Alhaji Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, SAN, as the Deputy Governorship candidate for the Labour Party ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
The courts ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly accept, process, and publish Alhaji Kadiri’s name in the electoral umpire’s official list of candidates, for the forthcoming election.
Kadiri will aid Akpata in the polls as he seeks to upset the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
The Court declared that the nomination process for Alhaji Kadiri not only met but “over-complied” with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, as well as the constitutional guidelines of the Labour Party.
Akpata said, "We are grateful for the strength and integrity of the judiciary, as well as the belief and unwavering support of the good people of Edo State - which remains pivotal to our campaign."
"I celebrate this victory with an even stronger resolve to serve our people, firmly focused on effecting transformational change in Edo State."
"Victory remains within our grasp, and with your continued support, resounding success is assured at the polls, come September 21, 2024."
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned politicians against the desperate political practice of grabbing and snatching power, particularly in the scheduled 2024 governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum gave the caution while inaugurating the campaign councils for the two states.
