An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Adamu Garba, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu about the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his disruptive influence in the ruling party.
Garba believes that Wike is capable of “scattering” the APC before the 2027 election, just as he did to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before 2023.
The chieftain expressed his concern about Wike’s continuous interference in the affairs of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
He warned that if Wike is not cautioned, he could potentially destroy the APC. Taking to Facebook to share his thoughts, Garba emphasised the importance of Wike exercising restraint while appearing to be more powerful.
Nyesom Wike and Fubara have been at loggerheads over the political control of Rivers State, which has had an impact on the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Initially, 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike initially claimed to have defected to the APC leading to parallel Assembly with Victor Oko-Jumbo being named Speaker.
However, the Supreme Court later ordered the reinstatement of the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, the Assembly initiated an impeachment process against Fubara for alleged gross misconduct.
In reaction to the development, Garba wrote: “If we allow Wike to continue his overreach on Fubara in Rivers, he’ll scatter us before 2027 as he scatters the PDP before 2023.
“Amid current situation, the timing is very poor.
“There is wisdom in exercising restraint even when you appear more powerful.”
