Wike cost Jonathan the presidency in 2015 - PDP Chieftain claims

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewoh claims that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike cost former President Goodluck Jonathan the presidency in 2015.

Ewoh made the allegation in a video that has since gone viral accusing the former Rivers State Governor of letting his conduct in 2015 jeopardize the chance of Goodluck Jonathan, a seating president who sought a second term in office.

He charged the national leadership of the party to sanction Wike for the damage he has cost the party saying that he can damage the party further.

Wike has been at loggerheads with the party after he lost the 2023 presidential ticket to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

This led to the formation of the Integrity Group, a group of dissatisfied governors from the PDP who were popularly called the G5.

Ewoh said: "There is no damage that Nyesom Wike has not already done to the party. There is no new damage he would do to the party again. Because in 2015, I told you, his governorship ambition cost Jonathan the presidency. His governorship ambition made PDP to lose the party, lose the government at the center. That was the major damage the FCT minister caused the party."

"I'm not sure there is any bigger damage he would do than this. In 2019, he did the same thing. In 2023, he organized what he called G5. Their actions, the activities robbed the PDP of the presidency. There is nothing new. What is left now is for the party to sanction him appropriately."

"There is no new damage he will cause to the party. Anywhere he sets his foot, he destroys the party."

Goodluck Jonathan lost the presidential elections in 2015, phoning former President Muhammadu Buhari to concede defeat.

Jonathan acknowledged the phone call and his defeat in a written statement to his countrymen.

“I thank all Nigerians once again for the great opportunity I was given to lead this country and assure you that I will continue to do my best at the helm of national affairs until the end of my tenure,” he said.
